This would be our first year here at Classic Game Fest, we are happy to say that we were impressed. The excitement that we had when arrived at the event was through the roof. We didn’t know what to expect when walking inside of the building but I do know that we were going to have fun, and that is exactly what happened.
As soon as we walked inside of the event center, we were greeted by CGF staff and they were very welcoming. Once you enter there was a table that had a pamphlet to show you were everything was and plenty of CGF merch to remember your visit by. So much to see and so much to do, from a live concert to multiple tournaments being held, we did not know where to start first.
There were two Main Halls. In the first main hall is where all the vendors were set-up. The number of vendors that showed up for this event was amazing. So many people around the state, came in to set-up shop. People were showing off apparel, gaming, art work, and charitable businesses. We even got to see Macintosh PC’s hooked up and playable for guests to experience. When you talk with the vendors, you can really tell how passionate they are about what they do. We even got to meet some individuals from our home town.
In the gaming area, which was held in second hall, had a display that showed all the different consoles and accessories. Atari, Sega Game Gear, Original Gameboy, and the legendary Power Glove were all available to see and touch. It really shows how far gaming has come. From the first announcement of the Nintendo NES to current generation. Now as far as the arcade line up, it was a dream come true for me. They had Mario Bros, Tron, Space Invaders, Turtles in Time, and so much more. Now a lot of these games that they had were some of the original game boards with the original arcade art work. I could only imagine what they had to do to get these games to the event. Playing some of these games really brought back a lot of memories for me.
Towards the end of our visit we felt like we didn’t even want to leave. We have had to circle the event close to a dozen times to make sure we did not miss a thing. We stayed for as long as we could to get the full experience. I personally spent some money while I was there on some items I could not pass up.
Classic Game Fest really hit me emotionally. Without these games from the past, the future of gaming would have never come to be. I am glad to know that such a special event like this exists, so I am able to share this with my children and show them what Retro Gaming is. I feel that they really did this for the fans and am glad to see that Old School Gaming still is alive and kicking. We did not realize there is such a huge following in the gaming community that will continue to keep it alive. This event is one to go in the Spartaprimez books. If you have not been to Classic Game Fest before, we highly recommend you to go. The experience is wholesome and very nostalgic. You will not leave disappointed.
