Knicks leadership dares to go against the grain by not offering Kevin Durant a Max Contract
ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne reported that the Knicks never gave Kevin Durant a Max Offer for Free Agency. For the most part Knicks, fans are upset that there wasn’t a max offer for Durant. The Knicks were not comfortable with offering Durant a max contract after his Achilles injury. Knicks President Steve Mills and General Manager Scott Perry have shown great courage by not risking a major Max Contract on Durant.
Durant who signed with the Brooklyn Nets will miss one season at the very minimum. We cannot write off Kevin Durant as an NBA Star. But the Knicks are not promised he will return to former glory. The Knicks have had terrible luck when it comes to building their franchise around Star players recovering from major injuries. It has not worked out for the Knicks. It has not worked for them over the last twenty seasons. The Knicks rolled the dice on NBA stars like Amare Stoudamire, Antonio Mcdyess, and so on. The Knicks have quietly become the NBA retirement stop before stars fall off the cliff. Veteran stars come to New York, Get their last big contract, and do not deliver on the basketball court. The Knicks had no choice but to pass on Kevin Durant.
This is a bold move for Knicks management. The Knicks have cleared cap space and drafted wisely over the last few seasons. For the most part-owner, James Dolan has stayed out of Perry and Mills way. The Knicks have a plan that they are sticking to. This is the most consistent and responsible front office the Knicks have had in ages. Disappointed Knick fans should stay patient. The high-risk high reward game plan has never worked for the Knicks. Your front office has managed to store first and second-round picks. The majority of your contracts have a team option after one season. Expiring contracts have great value during the trade deadline. over 50% of your roster contains young talent with tons of untapped potential. Not to mention you own all of your own draft picks. The sky is not falling Knicks fans. The only thing to ruin this momentum is a traditional panic Knicks trade. The Knicks Front Office has shown courage by standing their ground. Chin up Knicks fans… Your Future is a bright one !
